Motorsport racing shells must stand up to the severest stresses and must, as it were, be tailored to the driver’s body, so that it can provide an excellent hold in the seat in all driving situations. RECARO stands for supreme quality with regard to ergonomics, safety, technology, design and comfort – and for perfected technical expertise which has involved a long company history: "We want to make it better!", is the frequently quoted claim under which Wilhelm Reutter founded the company, initially as a bodyshop, in 1906. He achieved his goal. RECARO has written automotive history: By 1935, RECARO had more than 400 employees. The 1960's saw production of the first seats for Porsche and other car makers. The first RECARO sports seat was developed in 1965. RECARO went international when its first plant was established in the USA in 1973; KEIPER AG bought the company in 1983. At the start of the 1990's, RECARO expanded its product portfolio. Comfort and ergonomic seats were to follow. Another important milestone was the successful launch of the RECARO child seat in 1998, the basis for establishing the Child Safety Competence Center in 2004. A driver’s success in motorsport comes from total commitment. To make this commitment the driver must be able to rely 100% on the quality and dependability of his equipment. RECARO racing shells offer outstanding product characteristics through their unique construction, the use of high-quality raw materials and excellent processing – all shells are manufactured completely and entirely by hand.

Two special materials are used to produce the typical and often imitated moulds of the RECARO racing shell: high strength, glass fibre reinforced plastic (GRP) and ultra-light Carbon-Kevlar®, which achieves the highest possible strength through its structure. Like all safety-relevant components, the finishing techniques tried and tested in aircraft manufacture are subjected to the most rigorous testing as well as a secondary thermal treatment (all RECARO Carbon-Kevlar® racing shells are produced in an autoclave). This process provides the shells with their extreme load capacity and still maintains the lowest possible weight. The latest in modern technology is applied to make sure the material is protected during the final processing steps. One prime example is the trimming, which is carried out by a computer-controlled high-pressure water beam.

The latest crash tests on a wide range of shells have paid impressive testimony to the overall stability and safety of RECARO's racing shells, which not only satisfy, but exceed; each and every aspect of the latest FIA requirements.
